Frequently asked questions.
What is hypnosis?
Sometimes referred to as the “medicine of the imagination” hypnosis is a healing modality that has been around for thousands of years. Hypnosis and hypnotic states have been utilized and accessed since the times of ancient Greece and Egypt in places called “sleeping temples.” Hypnosis utilizes deep trance states to induce deep focus, bypass our inner critic, and access solutions that already reside within us. I find hypnosis to feel very similar to deep guided meditation and relaxation practices. The main difference is that hypnosis incorporates change work while meditation helps us to stay present.
Why is hypnosis helpful?
Hypnosis is helpful because it allows us to bypass our critical mind and move into a more resourceful state. Instead of being in the amygdala where the fight or flight response occurs, we are able to move into our prefrontal cortex which helps us problem solve and find solutions. When we are in a hypnotic state we are able to fully relax, bypass our inner critic, and find solutions and resources to the issues that we are working on.
Am I aware of what is happening during hypnosis?
YES! You are 100 percent in control during your hypnosis session. You can pull yourself out of a hypnotic state at any time. You cannot be hypnotized to do anything you don’t consent to, nor will you forget or be unaware of what happened during your session.
What can hypnosis help me with?
I believe that hypnosis can help you with “almost anything.” While most commonly hypnosis is thought of as a tool to help you with fears, phobias, and addictions, it can also be used to help you with your inner critic, grief, inspire creativity and more.
How many sessions will I need?
This entirely depends on the individual, their response to hypnosis, and what they wish to obtain with hypnosis sessions. The minimum I recommend is 3 sessions. Frequency will be discussed during your initial session and you can look at my package options to get a better idea of what I offer. If you have any specific questions prior to booking, please feel free to contact me directly.
Is hypnosis the same as therapy?
No, hypnosis is not the same as psychotherapy. It can be a great supplement to mental health services, but it is not a replacement for “traditional” psychotherapy.
What is your cancellation policy?
Payment must take place at the time of booking (prior to your session). I have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. This means that you must cancel your session within 24 hours to avoid being charged in full for your session. Once you book your session, you will receive an intake form and a waiver to be filled out prior to your session.
